Ethyl magnesium chloride is going to react like ethyl magnesium bromide will. MgBr is a Grignard reagent made by adding Mg and ether to a primary halogenated hydrocarbon. MgX, where X signifies a halogen, is a super good nucleophile. The addition of water will result in the ethyl magnesium chloride ripping off hydrogen(s) and destroying the reaction
