Balanced chemical reaction and type of reaction of magnesium and sodium fluoride is as follows -

  • The chemical reaction between Sodium fluoride and magnesium -

Mg + NaF --> MgF2 + Na

  • The balanced chemical reaction between the two is as follows -

Mg + 2NaF --> MgF2 + 2Na

  • Magnesium has valency of +2, Fluorine has valency of -1 and Sodium has valency of +1.
  • So, as per the valency, 2 ions of fluorine will bind with 1 ion of Magnesium.
  • The reaction is single displacement reaction because only one ion is exchanged between sodium and magnesium.
