Brass is a alloy formed by the mixture of zinc and copper. Brass is a non magnetic compound. As copper and zinc does not interact with moving magnets even brass does not do so.

Soft irons are magnetic when current is flowing through them. Soft irons are used to make magnets. They are attached with hard magnetic materials and when the current flows through them they itself get harder.

Lodestone is a natural magnet. It is a magnetite that attracts iron. In antiquity the property of magnetism was introduced by lodestone.

Difference between Brass, Lodestone and soft iron

Explanation: Brass :

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, in proportions which can be varied to achieve varying mechanical and electrical properties.[1] It is a substitutional alloy: atoms of the two constituents may replace each other within the same crystal structure.

SOFT IRON : iron that has a low carbon content and is easily magnetized and demagnetized with a small hysteresis loss.

LODE STONE : The lodestone is an extremely rare form of the mineral magnetite (Fe₃O₄) that occurs naturally as a permanent magnet. It therefore attracts metallic iron as well as fragments of ordinary ‘inert’ magnetite. This ‘magic’ property was known to many ancient cultures, and a powerful lodestone has always commanded a high price. By the eleventh century AD the Chinese had discovered that a freely suspended elongated lodestone would tend to set with its long axis approximately north–south, and utilized this property in the magnetic compass.
