Answer:

Abhimanyu and Uttara's son's name was Parikshit, meaning who has given his ‘Parikhsha' before his birth. Here is the story behind his name:—

On the night of the 18th day of Kurukshetra War, Ashwatthama was beside Duryodhan’s death-bed. When asked of his last will, Duryodhan asked Ashwatthama to kill all the 5 Pandavas. Ashwatthama obliged and went to the tent of the Pandavas.

Draupadi's brother and Pandavas' commander-in-chief, Dhristhyadyumn, noticed him and went for his 5 nephews' rescue, but in vain as Ashwatthama murdered him along with his 5 nephews, thinking the 5 nephews(also called Upapandavas) as the 5 Pandavas.

The Pandavas, Draupadi and Krishna were too late to rescue them. Ashwatthama returned to Duryodhan to give him the good news. Duryodhan, at last, died with peace.

Just then Ashwatthama noticed the 5 Pandavas, alongwith Draupadi. He was totally in disbelief and broken down as his plan went in-vain. Bheem told him that the ones who were killed by Ashwatthama were not the Pandavas but their sons. Ashwatthama was very much put down at his failure, but then realised that all of the sons of the Pandavas are now dead( Abhimanyu and Ghatotkach were killed by Karna in the Kurukshetra War itself).

But Bheem made him realise that Abhimanyu’s child is still alive in Uttara's womb. Ashwatthama then decided to attack Uttara's womb with his Brahmastra. Seeing this, Arjun too took out his Brahmastra.

Just then, Lord Krishna arrives at the scene. He informs them that if 2 Brahmastras are used at the same time then it will result in the destruction of the whole world(maybe even the universe). So Arjun decided not to use his Brahmastra. When Krishna asked Ashwatthama to do the same, Arjun told that Ashwatthama does not know to do so. So Krishna ordered him to choose for such a target, where it will not do harm to any living being.

But Ashwatthama was adamant to end any descendant of the Pandavas. So he attacked Uttara's womb with his Brahmastra. Krishna considered this as an extremely unbearable, henious and gruesome act. He cursed Ashwatthama that he would agonise for death but would never be able to die.

Here, Uttara was in a highly unbearable pain, while Draupadi and Subhadra were completely clueless of the cause. Just then the Pandavas and Krishna came and explained everything. Krishna cured Uttara.

Krishna said that Uttara's child has given his ‘Pariksha' before his birth. So, He named her son as Parikshit.
