Maharashtra plateau is known as rain Shadow area
The rain shadow region is an area having which is participating in the effects of topographic barrier. It is mainly found in mountain region for the Prevailing winds. The winds lost their moisture on the windward side, and the other side, leeward side will be dry.
So when the monsoon winds enter from the Arabian Sea to Western Ghats. Then the winds block the Western Ghats. Due to this region the leeward side have some rainfall. Maharashtra plateau lies in the leeward side of the "Western Ghats" and get very small rainfall so that is called as rain shadow area.
