Maharashtriya Jnanakosha is the first ever encyclopedia which was compiled in Marathi.
The chief editor of Maharashtriya Jnanakosha was Shridhar Venkatesh Ketkar.
He had started working on the encyclopedia in 1916.
He worked on it for 12 years until the work was completed in 1928.
Even till this date, Shridhar Venkatesh Ketkar is remembered for the notable contribution he has made in compiling this encyclopedia.
