◾In 1916, he travelled to Champaran in Bihar to inspire the peasant to struggle against the oppressive plantation system.
◾In 1917, he organized a Satyagraha to support the peasants of Kheda, district in Gujarat. There the peasants were facing crop failure and they wanted a relaxation in revenue.
◾In 1918, he went to Ahmadabad to organize a Satyagraha movement amongst cotton mill workers.
He organized all these successfully by non-violence and he gained popularity very easily all over the country by his idea of Satyagraha that means fight for truth by truth.
