Mahatma Gandhi is called "Mahatma" for his great work and greatness, which he has set for life. He was a great freedom fighter and non-violent activist and during his lifetime, when he was leading the causes of India's independence from British rule, followed non-violence. He was born on 2 October 1896 in the state of Porbandar, Gujarat.
