Explanation:
With the entry of Mahatma Gandhi into Indian politics, the nature of the liberation movement was changed. He mobilized the Indian masses for the benefit of the national cause and converted the National Congress into an organisation of the masses. While staying at South Africa concerning a judicial case of Dada Abdullah Co., he was shocked seeing the humiliating conditions of the Indians and resisted the racial policy of the white government. He developed there, a new technique of “Satyagraha” based on truth and non-violence in fighting against an all powerful government. With this technique he also was able to get the obnoxious racial laws repealed.
Coming back to India in 1915, he perused the same path of truth and non-violence. His entry into public life began with the ‘Satyagraha’ in Champaron district of Bihar in 1917. He could mobilize the peasants of this district against the exploitation of European indigo planters. In 1918, Gandhiji led a “no tax campaign” at Khera in Gujarat where the peasants were not able to pay the revenue due to famine.
