Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi, was born on 2 October 1869. He was a lawyer by profession. He practiced law and could lead a comfortable life. However, he opted to fight the British by participating in India’s freedom struggle.
He carried out various freedom movements and inspired many Indian citizens to join him. These movements had a wide impact on the British. Unlike various other leaders of his time, Gandhiji did not resort to violent and aggressive means to drive away from the British.
He took the path of truth and non-violence and was supported by a large number of Indians. He played a major role in freeing India from British rule.
