Mahatma Gandhi's concept of Swaraj:
According to Gandhi, Swaraj means rule by self and freedom. It needs to be witnessed at three levels:
- The individual swaraj which means controlling oneself and adhering to values of truth and non-violence.
- Free from the foreign rule by opposing imperialism, promoting swadeshi goods and establishing home rule.
- At the community level, village independence through self-sufficiency and village republics which involves delegation of power to grass root level.
Thus, he spiritualized the idea of Swaraj in order to attain self-rule.
