Jyotiba or Jyotirao Phule is remembered till today with high regards for pioneering the female education in India.

He started his mission of educating the women of India, by teaching his own wife Sabitribai Phule to read and write.

Then, the couple started together a girls’ school in 1851, where his wife taught the girls of the lower castes, mainly those belonging to Mahar and Mangs.

He opened two more schools for the girls later and worked for the total betterment of the women of that time.
