In this story by Yashpal, there are 2 main characters seth and sethani. Seth was a rich benevolent person and never hesitated to help others. But a time came when they lost all their wealth and were starving. So, sethani said seth to sell one of his 'mahayagya'. Though he hesitated, still at last he agreed. At his way to go to 'dhanna seth'(rich seth) he carried 4 thick roties and sat under the tree on the halfway of his journey to eat them. He saw a pale and hungry dog and gave him all the roties so that he could live and reach a village. Reaching the village, dhanna seth's wife(who had powers to see anything in the 3 lok's) asked him to sell his mahayagya(feeding the hungry). Seth thought that they were making fun of him, so he left. Reaching his village he said everything to his wife who was happy to see his husband's benevolent nature. But at night they found a hidden chamber inside which they found many precious items. They also heared a voice of god saying- "Feeding the hungry is the only 'mahayagya'".
