Speed of  Sound  is 332 m/s

Suppose lightening happens at a distance of 3 km

3 km = 3000 m

Time to see lightening =  3000/   3 * 10⁸  = 1/10⁵  = 0.01  milli sec

almost ins tantly

Time to hear sound =  3000/332 ≈ 9 secs

Hence after seeing the the lightning first  then after 9 secs the thundering sound will be heard.  

Gap between seeing the lightening and  and then hearing the thundering sound depends upon the distance at which lightening happens.
