==> x = y - 5

==> x - y = -5 -------------(1)

Again,

If the sum of ages of his father and mother is 89 years.

==> x + y = 89 --------------(2)

Add equ(1) & equ(2)

==> 2x = 89 - 5

==> 2x = 84

==> 2x = 84

==> x = 84/2

==> x = 42

Keep Value of x in equ(1)

==> 42 - y = -5

==> y = 42 + 5

==> y = 47
