Let a be the amount of air initially Amount of air remaining after 1st pump =x –(x/4)=3x/4

Amount of air remaining after 2nd  pump= (3x/4) – (1/4)(3x/4)=9x/16

Amount of air remaining after 3rd  pump= (9x/16) – (1/4)(9x/16)=27x/64

So the series is like

x,3x/4,9x/4,27x/64……..

Difference between first and second term=-x/4

Difference between Second and Third term= -3x/16

So the difference is not common

So it is not an Arithmetic Progression
