Mahesh \:  travels  \: in \:  bus = 3 \frac{1}{2} or \frac{7}{2}

He  \: travels  \: by  \: walking = \frac{11}{8}

Now,

To add them we have to find the L.C.M of the denominators as they are not equal ,

L.C.M of 2 and 8 is 8

Now,

We have to equalize the numerators i.e

\frac{7×4}{2×4} = \frac{28}{8}

and,

\frac{11×1}{8×1} = \frac{11}{8}

Now, as we have equalize the numerators we have to add them.

\frac{11}{8} + \frac{28}{8}

\frac{11+28}{8}

and,

Answer = \frac{39}{8} or 4\frac{7}{8} km

So, the \:  he  \: travelled   \\ \: 4\frac{7}{8} \:  km \:  to y \: reach the city

Hope it helps friend :-)
