Active and passive voices are ways of showing the relation between the doer and the receiver of an action.

$\textbf{Active Voice-}$ In the active voice, the subject does the action denoted by the verb.

$\textbf{Passive Voice-}$ In the passive voice, the subject is acted upon and hence is receiver of the action denoted by the verb.

In the first sentence, the "subject Mahima" does something. The verb broke expresses the action done by Mahima. the verb broke is said to be in the active voice.

The second sentence tells us that something was done to the subject "window". The verb was broken expresses an action done to the "subject window". The verb phrase was broken is said to be in the passive voice.
