Answer:

Causes of the Russian Revolution:-

1. Around 85% of the Russian population earned their living from agriculture. The cultivators produced for the market and for their own needs as well. They had to work hard to meet their both ends and had to bear the barbarities of the privileged classes.

2. With the expansion of railway network and the increase in foreign investment in industry , a number of factories were set up in the 1890s. But as there was no ample capital , more than half of the capital investment was made by the foreign investors. The foreign investors were interested only in making huge and quick profits without having any concern for the miserable conditions of the workers.

3. The workers had to work 12 to 15 hours a day but the wages they received for putting such an untiring labour were much less. They were deprived of political rights and had no means of getting even minor reforms.

4. Women formed around 31% of the factory labour force by 1914 but they were not equally paid. A woman's wage was between half and three quarters of a man's wage.

5. The peasants had no capital to improve the land under their possession and had to bear the heavy burden of taxation. Land-hunger of peasants became a major social factor in Russian society.
