- The animals of this phylum are multicellular and diploblastic.
- There is large body cavity, called coelenteron in the body.
- Body bears many nematocysts or cnidoblast cells (Stinging Cells).
- Two important polymorphic forms are present in life cycle-polyp and medusa.
- All organisms are aquatic. They show radial or biradial symmetry.
- All sponges are bisexual (hermaphrodite). Reproduction is both asexual and sexual.
- Examples of this phylum are:- Hydra, Aurelia, Physalia, etc.
