Important Features of Coelenterata are :-

  • The animals of this phylum are multicellular and diploblastic.
  • There is large body cavity, called coelenteron in the body.
  • Body bears many nematocysts or cnidoblast cells (Stinging Cells).
  • Two important polymorphic forms are present in life cycle-polyp and medusa.
  • All organisms are aquatic. They show radial or biradial symmetry.
  • All sponges are bisexual (hermaphrodite). Reproduction is both asexual and sexual.
  • Examples of this phylum are:- Hydra, Aurelia, Physalia, etc.
