Main features of quantum mechanical model:

  • The energy of atom is quantised.
  • These quantised energy obtained from solution of scrodinger wave equation.
  • With each atomic orbital , wave function can be associated.
  • According to this model, the path of the electron inside the atom can not be known accurately.
  • It considers the property of electrons similar to wave.
  • An atomic orbital is the wave function for an electron in an atom. When an electon described by its wave function we can say it is occupied by the orbitals.
  • According to this model, the electron can only have some definite values of energy.
  • In an orbital, the electrons are filled in the order of increasing energy of orbital.
  • According to this model, the probability of finding the electron inside the atom at any point is proportional to the the square of the orbital wave function. Also it is reffered as probability density.
