Norther mountains are divided into three parts in pakistan. These are :-

  • Kararkoram : This is the second highest peak in the world. Also known as K2.
  • Himalayas : This is the second highest peak  in pakistan. It is divided into three parts : Himadri, Shiwaliks and Himachal.
  • Hindu kush : It is the highest peak in Tirich.

Main relief features of Northern mountains in Pakistan

Explanation:

  • Pakistan has about 108 peaks and that is over 7000 meters in altitude. They include the Baltoro glacier, Godwin Austen glacier, and the northern parts of the Karakoram ranges and the Gilgit Balochistan region of the pak.  
  • The mountains that are found in the north-western range of the pak are those of the Himalayan in origin and they are cover the part of central Asia and thus represent the roof of the world.
  • They stretch in a continuous form east to west in a 2500 km belt of ranges. They have low rainfall and thus have less natural vegetation and subdivided into the Hindu Kush, Koh safed, Waziristan hills, salaiman Himalayas, kerther mountains.
  • Most of the mountains are snow-covered through the winters and the ranges reach up to top Afghanistan covering a distance of 300 meters ad the hills and peaks drain into the Arabian sea.
