1- Long years of war had drained the financial resources of France. to meet its regular expenses, the state was forced to increase the tax wich angered the people. This led to economic problems.
2-The population of France increased from 23 milllion in 1715 to 28 million in 1789.The price of bread shot up. The wages didn't keep pace with rising prices.This led to subsistence crisis.
3-The first two estates that is the clergy and nobility enjoyed certain privileges by birth. They were exempted from paying taxes. The third estate alone had to pay taxes to state.This led social inequalities.
