The story, Going Places written by AR Barton defines the dreams and aspirations of the youth and the pain of empty promises and crushed dreams. This explores the complexities of human relationships and the imagination and adolescence of hero-worship. Holding a balance between one's dreams and the real world is the survival rule. In one's life, dreaming and reality are both necessary. Because human life will be goal-less if you do not have the dreams you would want to turn into reality. Thus it is certainly important to balance dreams and reality.

EXPLANATION:

  • Sophie, a teenager, around whom the story revolves, like others of her generation, is full of dreams and wishes. Her financial background is weak, but she expect to be prosperous in the future. Central to this story were Sophie's dreams of the Irish footballer Danny Casey she saw in countless games playing. She tells her brother Geoff a story about how they met him on the street. In her fancies, Sophie is extremely engrossed. This made her completely unrelated to reality.
  • Sophie is pulled so deep into the story that she starts believing that it is true herself. She's waiting for the Irish player, but he never comes in obviously. Yet Sophie still has an unconcerned dream about her hero. She does not understand that her hero-worship is not consistent with her socio-economic background. Her thoughts continue to build castles. She is in a family with meager wealth and means in which she cannot afford to dream and to lose herself in her reveries.
  • She had to work very hard, and that she didn't, to make her dreams true. She always took lies to tell and never worked hard. It made people suspicious and everyone wanted her to be careful. The entire story is about impossible dreams and how we enjoy them all the while realizing that they have little chance of being realised. But certain people, including Sophie, engage too much in them and act on them. This is when deceit and disappointment makes its way into life.
