In human beings, it includes plasma, blood cells, and cell fragments called platelets.

  • Plasma - main component of blood. Its major component is water. Other are proteins, ions, nutrients, and wastes mixed in.
  • Red blood - Theses cells are responsible for carrying oxygen and carbon dioxide.  So, oxygen rich blood is called oxygenated blood and carbon dioxide rich blood is called deoxygenated blood.
  • Platelets - they are responsible for blood clotting.
  • White blood cells -they  are part of the immune system. They kill the bacteria, germs etc.
