Only Addressing is the major concern of IPv4 addressing.

  • IPv4 supports 32 bit length address, with the header length of 20 bytes.

  • So, we can say that It allows maximum of 2³² i.e., 4,294,967,296 unique addresses.

  • Every IPv4 address contains two parts : Network address and host address.

  • The first four bits of the address tells which class the IP address belongs to. If the first bit is 0, then it belongs to A class. If first is 1 and second is 0, class B. If first 2 bits are 1's and 3rd one is 0, class C. If first 3 are 1's and the 4th one is 0, class D. If all are 1's, class E.

  • IPv4 bits are separated by dots (.)
