Dear Student,

◆ Answer -

Major product of chlorination of ethyl benzene is is 1-chloro-1-phenylethane.

● Explaination -

Chlorination of ethyl benzene takes place aa follows -

C6H5-CH2-CH3 + Cl2/∆ --> C6H5-CH(Cl)-CH3 + C6H5-CH2-CH2-Cl

In this reaction, C6H5-CH(Cl)-CH3 (1-chloro-1-phenylethane) which is 2° alkyl halide is major product while C6H5-CH2-CH2-Cl (2-chloro-1-phenylethane) which is 1° alkyl halide is minor product.

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you...
