Environment & nature around us are rejuvenating after the lockdowns and in India, the water quality of contaminated rivers has not only improved, but also increased.

Explanation:

Ganga

  • The water quality in River Ganga is reported to have improved  during the lockout, as people remain in quarantine and the Ganga Ghats are kept abandoned. With the factories that discharge toxic industrial wastes into the river closed, some  stretches of the holy river in UP have become cleaner. One-tenth of the type of pollution to the river is the factories. Also stopped are Regional diesel motorboats thus reducing emissions . Limitation of chemicals that join the river added to enhancement of water quality

Yamuna

  • In areas with limited industrial activities, Yamuna water quality has increased significantly. In its report to the "Yamuna Monitoring Committee" (YMC), the "Delhi Pollution Control Committee" (DPCC) also reported that lack of industrial wastes  and a decline in human activity has enhanced Yamuna River water quality. With higher dissolved oxygen (DO) and a lower concentration of nitrate, the water quality has improved.

Narmada

  • The Narmada Water Quality has increased at sea, which is healthy for people & for the survival of aquatic animals & plants. The ongoing lockdown seems tp have given a positive output . The decreased discharge of industrial and agricultural wastes have had a significant influence on water quality

Godavari

  • In addition to industry shutdowns and decreased human activities such as outdoor baths, washing of clothing, etc, changes in water quality were seen in Godavari. The water has now become crystal clean after large gatherings and holy dives on the river were banned during the lockout.

Krishna

  • Discharge of harmful effluents & construction on the banks of the Krishna River have contaminated the river and made the river unsafe for use. However, with the lockdown and all activities stopped there has been considerable improvement in the water quality
