Weaver: Sure, what can I do for you?
Me: I would like to ask some questions about your weaving community and the work that you do.
Weaver: Sure. Ask whatever you want to now. I'll try to answer them as much as I can.
Me: What is it that makes weaving an integral part of your society's life?
Weaver: Well, we are a weaving community. We depend on our weaving for our financial gains and also it is an expertise that has been passed on from generation to generation. We need to preserve our heritage and this is the only thing we have been doing.
Me: So, does that mean that all of your men and women know how to weave?
Weaver: Not necessarily. Some of us can't do even a bit of it. But that doesn't mean they don't belong in our community. As humans, we all have our own choices but most of us are familiar with the weaving techniques we get passed from our ancestors.
Me: And how long has it been since this practice has been in use?
Weaver: I don't know the exact number of years but I can say for certain that it's been with us for the past 50 years or so.
Me: So it really is a huge communal treasure.
Weaver: Yes, it sure is.
Me: And what are your hopes for the future?
Weaver: It is true that advancement consumes everyone. Even our own children are more into western techniques and technologies. My only wish is that there are at least some who will continue to practice the tradition and help carry it forward to future generations.
Me: That's a great thing to say. I hope your wish will come true. Thank you for your time.
