A lintel is a horizontal member that spans over the openings, over portals, doors and windows between two vertical supports or walls.

It can be a RCC ,Stone , Wood or Steel depending upon the opening size and design.

Some times it would be decorative architectural element, or a ornamented structural item. Height of lintel depends on individual requirements and design of the projects.

It might be varied for project to project. But,

Commonly we can say lintel height will be 7′0″ from floor level for Residential buildings and 7′6″ for commercial buildings.

Sill level for windows would be 2′0″ to 3′0″ from floor level.

Sometimes height would be 0′4″ from floor level which is skirting height for windows.
