Answer:

Cyclone is defined as a "large scale air mass" which rotates around a strong centre of "low atmospheric pressure". They are characterised by inward spiralling winds that rotate about in a low pressure zone.

Fani was a severe cyclones that hit the coasts of India this year. It originated from a "tropical depression". This depression formed in the "west of Sumatra" in the "Indian ocean". The cyclone rapidly intensified. This made it an extremely "severe cyclonic storm". The drastic effects of Fani was foreseen and hence several civilians were moved from the "areas of Bangladesh and India". This reduced the expected death toll in the country.

The "India Meteorological Department" traces the storm and issued "numerous yellow warnings". The warnings were given to most of the "south-eastern portion of India" once the cyclone started to intensify. The "Odisha state government" had evacuated over "1.2 billion people" from the vulnerable areas. The people were moved to the higher grounds.

People can also take some steps to stay safe during the cyclone by staying at home. By moving too the upper grounds, to the safer zones.

Cyclones in the past:

1. Laila.

2. Jal

3. Phailin.

4. Hudhud.

5. Nada.
