The AP part of the basin that is located in lower parts has lower rainfall and affected by drought conditions. Lack of enough green cover lead to water run-off. Surface flow continues as usual without the underground system getting recharged. Also gradually, the water storage capacity of the Tungabhadra dam is lost.
