There are two important dams in river Ganga .
1. Tehri Dam:- It is one of the tallest dams in the world and it is located in Uttarkhand. It withholds a reservoir for irrigation as well as for production of 1000 MW. The height of the dam is 260.5 m(855 ft) and length of the dam is 575 m. Total capacity of the dam is 4.0 km^3.
2. Bansagar Dam:- It is a multipurpose river valley project which is used for both irrigation and hydroelectricity. It produces 425 MW. It's height is 67 m and it's length is 1020 m. It's capacity is 5.41 km^3.
