- 'Oil and natural gas' can be substituted for coal.
- Wood/plastic can be substituted in several cases for iron, steel, and copper.
- Jewellery made from plastics or shell materials can be substituted for Gold and Silver
- 'Paper' can be used wrap instead of Aluminum foil
EXPLANATION:
- Minerals are substances that are formed naturally underground and are made of elements, that is, basic substances which cannot be broken down into simple substances. Minerals generally make up most of what we utilise to build, stand on, manufacture, hence if we run out of minerals we can substitute minerals with other forms of items as stated above.
- Natural gas and oil are located in small spaces known as between rock layers deep within the Earth. Paper is made from several plants such as softwood and hardwood trees, cotton, hemp, bagasse, kenaf and so on. These plants are used to make 'pulp', from where paper is produced. 'Plastics' are derived from organic, natural, materials like coal, cellulose, salt, natural gas, and crude oil.
- Wood is a fibrous and porous 'structural tissue' found in the roots and stems of trees and other woody plants. Seashells come from mollusks, huge group of marine animals as well as mussels, oysters and clams. Shells are taken out from the outer surface of these animals known as mantle and are made up of majorly calcium carbonate
