Microprocessors can be divided in to five classes depending on the application to which they are put to.

1.  CISC :  complex instruction set  computer
                    regular computers we use

2.  RISC :  reduced instruction set computers  for speed in workstations and graphic processors

3.  ASIC :   Application specific instruction set computers
              these are the processors used in space, defense or engg applications.

4.  SSIC :   Super scalar computers ..
                      highly computing parallel processing one.

5.  DSPIC  :  Digital signal processing related processors.
            used in engg. electronics and defense or space applications.

If we are talking about the makes of processors: there are many:
 AMD, Motorola, Intel, AD, Apollo, ARM, DEC and so on..
