The difficulties of women in mid-nineteenth century can be divided into three areas:

i) Social problems:-

      Women were not allowed to attain education. They were confined to household chores and family responsibilities. Child marriage and several such practices were common.

ii) Economic problems:-

      Women were completely dependent on men, economically. They were restricted to go outside to do work.

iii) Political problems:-

      As women were illiterate, so they were not considered eligible to give votes and political views. They were politically inactive.
