There are 2 methods to biodiversity conservation namely: In situ (on site) and ex situ (off site).
In situ conservation (within natural habitat) strategy: When there is a conflict between development and conservation, many nations are not economically feasible to conserve nature. These countries identify regions which are rich in flora and fauna. These are called biodiversity hotspots. These regions are protected as biospheres reserves, national park and sanctuaries. India has 14 biospheres reserves, 90 national park and 448 sanctuaries.
Ex situ conservation (outside natural habitat) strategy: Nearly extinct and threatened animals and plants are taken from their natural habitat and preserved with special care either in zoological parks, botanical garden and wild life safari parks.
