My home town
If there is a place on earth that I consider heaven, it is my hometown -Shillong . Shillong is fondly called 'The Scotland of the East'.
It is one of the very few cities of India that boast of both a rich flora and fauna.
It is located in the East Khasi Hills. It is a beautiful plateau. A lot of tourists visit it every year. Few capitals are as scenic as Shillong.
Shillong is also an educational hub. Many prestigious educational organisations are located here.
The British spent much time in this abode of clouds. The Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore wrote his famous novel 'Sesher Kobita' in Shillong. The background of the novel is based on the hilly resort.
Thousands of butterflies are found in Shillong. Rare orchids grace its forests. A variety of exquisite flowers blossom in Shillong. The innumerable pine trees make the environment of Shillong lush and somnolent.
Shillong represents a microcosm of the urban elite of India. It is one of the most attractive cities of India. I feel blessed to have it as my hometown.
