The Ganga Action Plan was launched in 1985 to reduce the pollution level in the river. However, the river has damaged beyond repair due to increasing population and growing industrialization.
For Ex- At Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, the quantity of water in river Ganga is comparatively small and flow of the river is slow. Being one of the most populated and industrial town of Uttar Pradesh, the Ganga is suffering a lot here.
India's most famous tourist attraction, the Taj Mahal in Agra has become a matter of concern due to increasing air pollution. The industries like Rubber processing, Automobile, Chemical and especially the Mathura oil refinery have been responsible for producing harmful pollutants like sulphur dioxide , which on reacting with moisture of air forms sulphuric acid. It is corroding the beauty of Taj Mahal.
