The project that you can make :
Take a cylinder container. Drill some holes along its side at different heights from the base.Close the holes with an adhesive tape. Pour water into the container and open all the holes at the same time.
Water flowing out the hole at the top hits the ground at the least distance from the bottom of the container.
Water from the hole at the bottom hits the ground farthest from the bottom of the container.
This shows that liquid pressure increases with the increasing depth from both the top surface of liquid.
Various Applications of pressure in daily life :
- Cutting tools like scissors, knives have very small surface areas of contact at their cutting edges. When a force is applied to cut an object, the small surface area will result in big pressure and this will make the cutting easier.
- The wide shoulder pads attached to a heavy school bag carried by you reduces the pressure on the shoulder because the surface area of contact between the pads and the shoulder is big.
- Ink dropper works on the principal of air pressure, on squeezing the rubber top on the dropper into the liquid and stop squeezing the top , the low pressure inside ink flows inside and fill the void.
- The bottom of the football shoes consists of spikes. These sharp spikes reduce the area of contact and the increase pressure on the track. This will provide the runner a better grip on the ground.
