1)after taking over a powerfull state like Bengal the company's governor Warren Hastings declared that the company's authority was paramount or supreme . this meant that they could annex any state without the need of a war

2)the second policy was subsidiary alliance in this policy no Indian state could have personal troops, the needed protection would be given by the company. but the states had to pay for this alliance and if they could not pay a part of there territories would be taken away

3)the third policy was the doctrine of lapse made by lord Dalhousie. it meant that if a king died without a male heir there kingdom would lapse. that is become a part of their territory
