The first few sultans did not concentrate on topics of trade and commerce. Balban was the first sultan to promote such activities. The economic reforms brought by Alauddin Khilji brought the prices of goods to low which led to easy lifestyle of people, but did not contribute to economical growth or growth in trade.

During the time of Mohammad Tughlaq, the trade made a significant growth on account of the territories under the sultans grew large and therefore the area of trade grew large and alongside efficient economic forums being introduced the growth in trade was huge and reached the price of 6crore while that of the Persian was 80lakh.

Sultanate period is the long era of Muslim rule in India, before the establishment of Mughal dynasty.

Sultan Balban created new roads for trade purposes and also suppressed the threats of bandits, which helped the traders in increasing long-distance trades.

Alauddin  Khilji decreased the prices of many items, which was a great economic help to the common mass.

His economic reforms encouraged the foreign imports. Muhammad Tughlaq built several canals and wells for irrigation and started factories, for boosting many industries and thus, the society prospered to a huge extent.
