During Sultanate period, the trade was flourishing. Communities such as Banias, Marwaris and Multanis had their own special vocation of merchandise trade. The Banjaras acted as Couriers and they traded in caravans. The growth of trade also encouraged use of money in place of barters. The introduction of Tanka and Jital by Iltutmish was most used currency in early periods of sultanate.
*Internal trade and foreign trade boomed during the period with Delhi as the main trade centre. Various trade events were held at market place facilitating the traders to buy and sell goods. During this time, India traded with Malaya, China, Central Asia, Iran, Afghanistan and many European countries. Silver coins and gold coins were minted and used during this period. Agriculture, textile and paper industries were encouraged to a large extent.
A REPORT ON THE TRADE GROWTH AND ITS EFFECTS
Trade growth refer increase in trading activities resulting from humble beginnings to multiple success in business. The growth can be evident through establishment of new modern market places, increased commodity and products supply and population increase to supply available to consumed goods.
Increase in trade led to improved lifestyle of the population which brought about some negative challenges which include,
1. Massive population increase due due to availability of resources leading to housing problems among the people.
2. Competition emerged as a result of struggles to attain resources for trade.
3. Trade growth came along with social class status meaning people became wealthy while other remained poor
