Green house effect:

➸The greenhouse effect is a naturally occurring phenomenon, that is responsible for the heating of earth surface and atmosphere.

➸When the solar radiation falls on earth surface heating it, while a small proportion is reflected back. Earth surface re-emits heat in the form of infrared radiation but part of this does not escape into space as atmospheric gases (e.g., carbon dioxide, methane, etc.) absorb a major fraction of it.

➸The molecules of these gases radiate heat energy, and a major part of which again comes to earths surface, thus heating it up once again.

➸This cycle is repeated many a times. Increase in the level of greenhouse gases has led to considerable heating of earth leading to global warming.

cause&effect of global warming:

Effects;

  1. Odd climatic changes are one of the major climatic changes leading to the increased melting of polar ice caps as well as of other places like the Himalayan snow caps.
  2. Disruption of habitats such as coral reefs and meadows could drive many plant and animal species to extinction.
  3. The sea level has been rising more quickly over the last century.
  4. Depletion of ozone layer leads to increase in temperature.

Causes;

  • Global warming is caused due to the excess presence of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and ozone in the atmosphere.
  • Burning of coal and petroleum products produce carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas.
  • Deforestation reduces the number of trees which convert carbon dioxide into oxygen by photosynthesis and thus, the amount of carbon dioxide in atmosphere increases.
  • Methane is a greenhouse gas, so it also causes global warming.

Measures to control global warming:

Deforestation is a contributor to global warming and is often cited as one of the major causes of the enhanced greenhouse effect. Tropical deforestation is responsible for approximately 20% of world greenhouse gas emissions. Burning fossil fuels increases the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. CO2 is a major contributor to climate change or global warming.

hope it helps you
