Answer:
Story of the Praying Hands
Every picture tells a story. A picture of a flower or a bee, pictures of mountains, rivers, deserts and forests tell me the story of the creative power of God. A picture of the sky or outer space tells me how great God is. Have you seen the painting of the famous Praying Hands? Here is the story behind the picture.
Albrecht and Albert were brothers. Both the young brothers wanted to pursue art. But they knew that their father is too poor to support them.
The two boys discussed about it and came up with an idea. They would toss a coin. The loser would go down into the nearby mines, work hard, and support his brother. When the winner completed his academy in four years, he would support the other brother at the academy either by selling his arts or by working in the mines.
Albrecht Durer won the toss and went off to Nuremberg art academy in Germany. Albert went down into the dangerous mines every day for the next four years and financed his brother.
Albrecht immediately impressed his professors with his artistic talent. He became famous all over the country. He completed his studies at the top of the the class. On the day of his return, the entire village gathered to welcome him with songs and dancing.
Albrecht turned to his Albert. He said, "My beloved brother, I have accomplished my dream to become a great artist. Now it is your turn to go to Nuremberg. I will take care of all your needs."
Albert was in tears. He said softly, "No, brother. I cannot go to Nuremberg. It is too late for me." He showed his hands to Albrecht. "Look. The bones in every finger have been smashed many times. I am suffering from arthritis. I cannot even hold a glass of water. I cannot hold a pen or a painting brush." (Retold by Selie Visa)
Conclusion:
Every picture tells a story. saying. There are stories. There are hidden and unsaid stories behind them. Every picture tells a story is often a story without words. The Praying Hands by Albrecht is a tribute to his brother. It is the most touching picture story to me. I hope it touches you as much as it did to me.
