The wind was blowing wildly in the dense forest, and as the leaves turned to hurriedly scurry away from the crackling sound of thunder in the distance, a girl's face popped out from a bramble thicket.
The girl looked no older than 10, and she was hideous. A terrible scar ran from her forehead to jaw, making it look like a portrait that had been furiously crossed out. Her mouth was wrenched sideways in a permanent sneer, her nose was smashed and her single eye was staring at the rushing river ahead.
Her eye gazed up at the roaring storm above her. She turned from the thicket and her attention flickered to a vaguely cosy looking hut. Ever since her parents were killed in an unfortunate fire, she had been living there with a strange deer. She had called him Stalker. Because he followed her everywhere.
Now the scarred child was seeking vengeance and setting out to find the savages that had killed her family. Suddenly bursting into a sprint, the girl leapt onto the back of the deer and Stalker immediately began galloping into the distance, toward and past a bundle of wilting flowers..
