AN ADVENTURE TO REMEMBER
"Please remain calm! There is nothing to fear. We are going to land. Everything is under control." a voice boomed over the microphone. But the fact that the plane was running on only one of its four engines was enough to scare the wits out of the passengers. Everyone had their oxygen masks out and half of them were already convinced that they were going to die.
CRASH! The plane landed and all the passengers rushed out of it. Thanking God for their miraculous escape they decided to explore the island. Six men and one woman volunteered to go. And so they set off. They assumed that the island was uninhabited and so their sole target was finding food.
At first, the volunteers truly enjoyed their task and were moving merrily. The woman was revealed to be a very good singer so when they sat down to rest at nightfall, she sang a beautiful song and they were soon all asleep. The next day their spirits were slightly low. The third day found them trudging slowly, somehow dragging themselves. They had brought some food from the plane which was exhausted by the fourth day. That day they survived only on some wild berries. They had no idea of what the next day had in store for them.
The fifth day was here and they had reached a smoldering ruin. They searched all around and inside it. They found a room full of beds. Thoughts began to swirl in their minds-"Was this a hospital? Or a hostel?". But they couldn't reach a conclusion. In another room were very old yet beautiful paintings. "This must be a museum! But what are beds doing in a museum?" they thought. They decided to spend the night in the ruin as it had suddenly started raining outside. As the day wore on and the night came, the ruin no longer seemed beautiful. It looked like there was some predator hiding in there ready to pounce on them. Sometimes the feeling of security also makes one queasy. This was what was happening to these people. They observed much to their regret that there was not a speck of dust on any of the surfaces. Somehow they fell asleep.
BAM! There was a gun shot in the distance which was enough to awaken all the six of them. They rushed out to find themselves surrounded by people." Catch them! They are the theives!" The volunteers were baffled. The woman, by name Jasmine was quick to understand the situation. She spoke up in their defense,"We are no thieves. We came to seek help. Please listen to us." And so they explained how their plane had crash landed on this island and how they volunteered to explore the island. The people in turn accompanied them back to their delapitated plane and helped the passengers with food and other basic necessities. When it was revealed that the people there accepted Indian currency, the passengers decided to repay their kindness by buying souvenirs from the village which was on the other side of the island. The ruin was revealed to be an old palace turned into an hotel. The volunteers,who were now firm friends, laughed over the thought that the ghost of an old king might have been watching them during there time in the ruin.
One of the villagers informed the passengers of an ocean liner that was due in an hour. The passengers collected their trunks from whatever was left of their plane. They promised to come back someday to the village. And so they went home with one adventurous memory to cherish.
