As these women on the sidewalk talked to this frail, dirty homeless boy, one of them whispered into the other's ear and they both opened up their purses for some loose change, both the women gave the boy about $3 in all. The boy was ashamed to have this money, but he took it very happily and gripped it so he wouldn't let go.
