CELL ORGANELLES AND FUNCTIONS
Explanation:
IN EXCEL I HAVE SHOWN NAME OF ORGANELLE AND THEIR FUNCTION
VERY SPECIFICALLY AS IN ONE WORD IT WILL EXPLAIN ITSELF.
Cell structure: Organelles
Organelles are cellular structures that perform unique functions within or around the cell. Organelles are like 'the organs of the cell".
Here are different organelles and their functions:
1) Cell membrane - also known as the plasma membrane, is the outer membrane that surrounds cells. The cell membrane is the biological membrane that separates the the cell's content from the outside environment.
2) Cell wall - exists in plant cells only. They are composed of peptidoglycan and provide shape to the cell.
3) Chloroplast - these are the organelles that trap sunlight used in the process of photosynthesis.
4) Endoplasmic reticulum - There are two forms; smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulumn. The rough ER function is to tranlsate and fold synthesised proteins. Smooth ER function in the expression of lipids
5) Flagellum - these are structure that exist around the cell, used for locomotion and act as sensory organs.
6) Mitochondria - These are the energy centres of the cell. These organelles produce energy from oxidation of glucose in the form of ATP used by the cells.
7) Cell Vacuole - these organelles store food substance, transport materials and helps to maintain homeostasis.
8) Cytoplasm - this is the fluid matrix of the cell. It acts as the medium of transportation within the cell.
9) Golgi apparatus - these organelles function is to sort, pack, process and modify synthesised proteins.
10) Nucleus - this is the nerve center of the cell. The nucleus controls all the activities of the cell. The nucleus also store the genetic material of the cell.
