There are 3 main cropping practice preferred in India:
1. Mixed cropping: in this type of cropping, you mix the seeds of two crops and scatter them around the field. You need to make sure that the two crops have different characteristics and needs so that there isn't competition for nutrition (eg. You plant one crop whose root grow along the ground and you grow another crop whose roots grow deep down. THIS TYPE OF CROPPING IS CARRIED OUT IN RAINY AREAS SO THAT THERE ISNT A RISK OF LOSING ALOT OF CROPS DUE TO UNTIMELY RAINFALLS ETC.
2. Intercropping: It means growing more than one crop in a field but in DEFINITE ROWS (unlike mixed cropping).ie: you will have one row of plant A and another row of plant B.
Crop rotation: This kind of cropping is widely used in India. In this kind of cropping crops on different fields every year. For eg: Leguminous crops like pulses, groundnut etc. are grown in a season, alternating between cereal crops such as wheat, maize etc. The leguminous crops restore the fertility of soil through nitrogen fixation.
This is information on the different cropping practices used in India, hope it helps.
